Roy Haynes (March 13, 1925 – October 22, 2018) was an American jazz drummer, a legend of hard bop and bebop. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he began playing drums in his youth, inspired by Jo Jones and Max Roach. In the 1940s and 1950s, Haynes became a star, collaborating with Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk. His style featured dynamic rhythms, subtle accents, and an ability to adapt to soloists, making him one of the most sought-after drummers.
