Booker Ervin was one of the most passionate and intense tenor saxophonists of the post-bop era. Originally from Texas, he began as a trombonist before switching to tenor sax and developing a fiery, blues-rooted style of improvisation. Ervin gained fame playing in Charles Mingus’s iconic bands, but also carved out a remarkable solo career. His recordings are known for their emotional power, energy, and uncompromising individuality. Though he died young at 39, his sound remains unforgettable.
