Kurt Rosenwinkel (born October 28, 1970) is an American guitarist and composer, one of the most influential jazz musicians of his generation. Born in Philadelphia, he began on piano before switching to guitar, inspired by Pat Metheny, John Scofield, and Bill Frisell. Moving to New York, Rosenwinkel became a star of the Smalls scene, collaborating with Brad Mehldau, Mark Turner, and Avishai Cohen. His style is defined by complex harmonies, fluid phrasing, and a unique use of space, earning him acclaim from musicians like Pat Metheny and Joshua Redman. Rosenwinkel recorded numerous albums, including his debut East Coast Love Affair on Fresh Sound New Talent, which established him as a leader with a distinct voice. He continues to perform and teach, shaping jazz’s future.
