“Zvezda Po Imeni Solnce” (Звезда По Имени Солнце) stands as one of the most defining albums in the discography of the legendary Soviet rock band “Kino” (КИНО). Originally recorded and released in 1989, it marked a pivotal moment in the history of Soviet rock, blending poetic lyricism with raw, evocative sound.
For the first time in over three decades, “Maschina Records” has meticulously reissued the album, using the original master tapes to deliver pristine, high-fidelity audio that captures the essence of “Kino’s” vision. This landmark reissue is accompanied by a 12-page booklet, featuring rare, previously unreleased photographs and insightful liner notes that delve into the album’s creation and legacy.
Adding to its significance, the reissue was overseen by original band members Yuri Kasparyan and Igor Tikhomirov, alongside Alexander Tsoy, son of Kino’s iconic frontman Viktor Tsoy. Their involvement ensures that this release honors the band’s enduring legacy with authenticity and care.
“Kino” (КИНО) is a legendary Soviet rock band, formed in 1982 in Leningrad by Viktor Tsoi (vocals, guitar, songwriter). Alongside Yuri Kasparyan (guitar), Georgy Guryanov (drums), and Alexander Titov (bass), the band crafted aunique style blending post-punk, new wave, and poetic lyrics. Inspired by The Cure and Joy Division, Kinobecame the voice of the perestroika generation, with Tsoi’s songs about freedom and love defining an era. Theirbreakthrough album “Gruppa Krovi” (Группа крови) (1988) won millions of hearts. After Tsoi’s tragic death in 1990, “Kino” (КИНО) remained a legend, their music enduring through “Maschina Records’” remastered reissues.
