Tadd Dameron (February 21, 1917 – March 8, 1965) was an American jazz composer, arranger, and pianist, one of bebop’s architects. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he began playing piano in his youth, inspired by Duke Ellington. In the 1940s, Dameron became a key figure in bebop, working with Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, and Billy Eckstine. His compositions, like If You Could See Me Now and Hot House, became standards. Dameron was known for his rich harmonies and melodic arrangements, bringing sophistication to bebop. His albums, including The Magic Touch, highlight his genius as an arranger. Later, he taught, inspiring young musicians.
