Bobby Timmons (December 19, 1935 March 1, 1974) was an American jazz pianist and composer, a key figurein hard bop and soul jazz. Born in Philadelphia, he began playing piano in his youth, inspired by gospel musicand Bud Powell. In the 1950s, Timmons became a star, collaborating with Art Blakey and Cannonball Adderley.His compositions, like Moanin’ and Dat Dere, became jazz standards, earning him fame for his melodic, bluesyenergy. Timmons recorded several albums as a leader, including Soul Time, showcasing his swinging style and knack for catchy melodies. Later, he taught, sharing his craftsmanship.
